So why Thailand? I get asked that quite often actually. The dream of relocating to Thailand all started with a simple trip to Key West, Florida...

We all need to get away from our sometimes humdrum existence of the same daily routine all the time. Your mind, body, and spirit tell you it is time to get away, and have some fun. I had an opportunity to go to Key West, Florida with some friends, and didn’t hesitate to go along.

While walking down Duval St., and checking out the many bars that line the sidewalks there, I picked out the next bar to have a drink in. It didn’t take long before I met Som Jai, a girl from Thailand. She told me her name means to be content with what you have in life. (Amazing how in some countries a persons name has a meaning. but like Bruce Willis said in the movie, Pulp Fiction, “In America our names don’t mean squat.”, or something like that.)

Som Jai looked like the typical Asian girl, she was a petite lady with long jet black hair, and black eyes. She was all of 100 pounds, and stood five foot nothing. Som Jai had a magnetic smile that lit up her face, and she was the sweetest girl that I had ever met. Let me tell you, after 5 minutes of talking to her, I was content to spend the rest of the night with her.

She sat down to talk to me, and of course I bought her a drink. I gazed into her glowing eyes as we talked for hours about anything, and everything. She was like an open book, and told me personal things about herself that you would only expect to hear from a girlfriend. It didn’t take long before everyone else in the room seemed to disappear, and only Som Jai existed. I didn’t even remember coming there with friends at that point.

After a few hours of conversation with this amazing woman, we parted ways. I never saw her again after that weekend, but I have often thought about our chance encounter. I left her presence thinking that I need to find a girl like her to share my life with. There was only one place to go if I wanted to achieve that goal, and so a new destiny, and a different adventure in my life was about to begin.

It’s funny how meeting the right person at the right time can completely change your life as you know it. There was a time in my life that I had no desire to visit Thailand, but that all changed in a single moment. It’s not that I had anything against going to Thailand, I just never thought about it before, but that all changed when I met her.

Thanks for the new direction in my life Som Jai, wherever you are...

A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step....

It did not take long for me to fall in love with the land of smiles, Thailand, after my first trip there. I have spent a month in the Kingdom of Thailand. every year since my first vacation there.

There are areas of Bangkok that I now know like the back of my hand. I like to say I live part of the year in Thailand, and part of the year in America. For now that will have to be good enough. Yes, I can honestly say that I never had any intention of visiting Thailand before, but now living there is all I think about. If you have ever been there, then you know what I mean. If not then a new adventure awaits you too.

What are you waiting for? You know you want to experience Thailand for yourself. Buy a plane ticket to Thailand, and find a hotel room for your first few nights until you decide where you want to stay. (Bangkok, Thailand Hotels) Your next adventure is calling you.
